The Movement Day gathering is a recognition of the work of united prayer over many years in the city. Very diverse traditions had been knit together through the work of gathered prayer.
Movement Day also recognized the impact of the marketplace community, the work of local churches, and the potential of the next generation. We saw the beauty and power of the united church gathered on a common day for the city.
Movement Day Middle East
Next Steps
The real objective of Movement Day is to take the results of issues discussed as various movements into the city. As followers of Jesus, we need to be able to provide comfort and hope to the world.
The new doors God has opened in this unique season needs to be explored further and help us to serve our cities and communities. Let us come together, live out and share God’s love for His world.
Relationships developed needs to help the facilitators to gather again with the attendees and move the planned strategic steps for achieving transformation. This group can then think about their vision, mission, how often they could meet, struggles, achievements and what is their road map of short term and long term goals.

Movement Day Middle East: An Historic Gathering in 2025
1. The Middle East: The Cradle of Christianity
Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Israel, in the Middle East in Western Asia in the first century. His arrival into the world in the Roman Empire as a member of a despised religious minority is neither a historical nor geographic accident. Jesus was born as the fulfillment of the Ancient Promise to Abraham, and proclaimed by Isaiah.
Nearly two thousand years ago Jesus ascended into Heaven from the Middle East. His movement began with the first 25,000 people who historians believe were active followers at the time of the Ascension. The movement grew to 20 million by the year 312 AD when Constantine the Roman Emperor declared himself to be a Christian. The movement grew 800 times in 300 years through the cities of Western Asia and Southern Europe as described in the book of Acts.
As we gather in Dubai in March 2025, it is important to recognize and celebrate the enduring nature of our faith in a region that today is still the geographic cradle of our faith. God is doing a new thing, a powerful thing in the Middle East in the many diverse expressions of Christianity.
2. The Birth of a Nation
In 1960 Doctors Pat and Mariane Kennedy came to the Arabian desert to found Oasis Hospital at the invitation of the Royal Family. At that time infant mortality was 50% and the number of mothers dying in childbirth was 33%. For fifteen years, the Kennedys built the hospital and it had a profound impact. The infant mortality rate was reduced to .5%. The current President, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahayan, was born in the hospital. In fact, many observers believe that the reversal of the infant mortality rate made it possible for the UAE to create a stable population base to become an official nation in 1971.
This is a remarkable achievement from the Kennedys as medical missionaries. Today the rapport with the Royal Family of the UAE is one of the greatest expressions of religious tolerance anywhere in the world. President Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has insisted that the hospital maintain its commitment to its mission including the presence of a church on the grounds of the hospital. The church provides meeting space for 36 congregations each weekend and 1600 parishioners.
3. Movement Day Dubai 2019
In 2014 Forbes Magazine ranked Dubai as the 7th most influential city in the world with its rapidly growing economy. Dubai has been an innovator in the attraction of corporate headquarters, the epicenter of travel, and a diversity of financial services. As one of the seven emirates, it was part of the founding of the United Arab Emirates in 1971. What has happened in fifty years is breathtaking.
Abu Dhabi is the capital of the UAE and functions as a financial and religious hub for the region. The Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi is one of the global architectural marvels. It is a center for Islam in the region.
As the percentage of expatriates in the UAE is nearly 90% (according to Global Media Insight), this provides a rich and diverse religious mosaic for the nation. There is freedom of religion and Christians gather in significant percentages across the nation. The Christian church is very diverse with a strong concentration from South Asia and Southeast Asia.
In 2019 nearly four hundred leaders from Dubai and the globe gathered at the Two Seasons Hotel. We were honored to have with us Dr. Omar (need last name) representing the Royal Family. In his presentation, he acknowledged the impact of the church on the city of Dubai for the past fifty years. Leaders spanning the various Christian traditions were part of this extraordinary celebration of the gospel in the region.
The Movement Day gathering was a recognition of the work of united prayer over many years in the city. Very diverse traditions had been knit together through the work of gathered prayer. Movement Day also recognized the impact of the marketplace community, the work of local churches, and the potential of the next generation. We saw the beauty and power of the united church gathered on a common day for the city.
Dubai continues to be one of the great global epicenters. In 2023 Movement Day Middle East convened 1200 leaders from 156 cities and 45 nations across five continents. We trained our first 450 scholars in person including many Middle Eastern Leaders.
We are envisioning impacting up 50 cities across the Middle East in the. next decade. In these uncertain times we need the Prince of Peace to rule more than ever in the region.
4. The 2033 Dream
As the global church prepares to celebrate the 2000th anniversary of Jesus’ Ascension, we dream of the Christian community in cities throughout the Middle East to be celebrated for two millenniums of faithfulness and current unity. We dream of the modern-day church in the midst of all of its challenges receiving a fresh wind of God’s Spirit to work among the many disenfranchised populations of the Middle East.
We anticipate a global celebration that recognizes our deep historical roots in the region. We envision a new generation of Jesus’ followers who will be discipled into a deep commitment to love the Lord their God with all of their heart, soul, mind, and strength. The Movement Day Middle East gathering of 2025 can provide a glimpse of what the next ten years can look like for the global church.
